Domras Cup Mead Competition
12th Annual
BACK to calendar
As usual, local members will want to meet for the potluck dinner after judging (complete with an oyster roast). Bring a dish/dessert. Everyone is invited—it’s always a good time to visit with folks, and of course try samples of homemade and commercial mead.
Wow, a dozen years! The 2010 Domras Cup Mead Competition is an AHA sanctioned competition open to all home meadmakers. No professional or commercial entries are accepted. All styles of Meads will be accepted (Style 24 Traditional Mead, Style 25 Melomel, and Style 26 Other Mead). Entrants should provide if the entry is 1) still, petulant, or sparkling, 2) if it is dry, semi-sweet, or sweet, and/or 3) if it is hydromel, standard or sack strength. Categories & Subcategories may be combined for judging, at the competition organizer’s discretion. Meads will be judged according to the subcategories in which they were submitted.
Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each category. A “Best of Show” round will follow with all category style winners competing against each other for additional prizes and their name on the Domras Cup.
Entry Fees: $5 per entry (send 1 bottle still / 2 bottles if sparkling)

Evaluation Forms (have your Brewer ID handy)
Print and include a copy of your entry form. One bottle of still mead or two bottles of sparkling mead shall be submitted with the entry. Print the bottle labels from the online entry site and attach to each bottle with rubber band (no tape). Bottles can be 12-25 oz. (750ml). With only one bottle required this year, a larger bottle may be better to ensure enough available for BOS. Smaller bottles (some folks use the 7 oz-ers for their meads) can be sent but require two bottles, no matter if still or carbonated. Since many meads are of course corked or bottled in non-standard bottles, the entries will be served blind to judges already poured into wine glasses.
Entries are due by February 1, 2010
Local Brewers:
Can arrange with Steve or Jerald for drop-off prior to the 1st. If entry form and payment are received by the 1st, entries can be brought directly to the competition. Day-of entries should be brought at the proper serving temperature and need to be on-site by 8:30 a.m.
How to Enter:
Chris Stovall, Judge Director. Let Chris know if interested in judging the competition. All of our Apprentice and current judges are highly encouraged to participate. Since we may require judges that are also entrants, we’ll need to work out the details of judge category placement, etc. Please fill out an online registration form or contact Chris (912-667-9733). We will hold a judge and steward session at 8:30 a.m. so be on-site for instructions by then if volunteering.
Out of Town Judges: We need you too! Please contact Chris (912-667-9733) to volunteer. If you have entries, you may bring those with you granted fees and forms have been submitted by the Entry Date.
It is expected that the competition will take place all on Saturday morning with a BOS round occurring directly after category rounds are completed.
