The National Homebrew Conference will be held in Cincinnati this year, June 19-21.

We hope to have a good group from Savannah attend.  There will be technical sessions during the day (with beer), dinners and social events in the evening (with beer), and we will plan to host the hospitality suite one session (with beer).  Then when you’re not doing any of the official activities, you can sit back and have a beer.  You’ll never have so much fun you can’t remember in your life.

Go to the AHA website for more details and to register.

All the hotel rooms in the host hotel Sheraton are booked, as well as the sister hotel the Hamilton next door.  There are several other hotels within stumbling distance, so log onto beertown.org and sign up.   WE DO HAVE 2 EXTRA ROOMS RESERVED, SO TALK TO DAVID.

Through April 30, there is an early bird price for the full registration package ($215) or for just a social package ($140).  After they gauge actual attendance, they may then open up registration for individual events.  I’ll have to say, the technical sessions are excellent and Club Night/Craft Brewers Night are can’t-miss items, so the full package is really a deal.

Club Night

At the very minimum, we want to put together a great program for Club Night.  This is typically THE highlight of the conference (Friday night).  We are now planning to team with the other Georgia homebrew clubs (since they were slack and didn’t get reservations in time) and will have a theme of the “Georgia Beer Militia” complete with a M*A*S*H army tent and other fun themed items.  Check back soon for a listing of what folks have already planned to bring.  I think we will end up with the biggest amount of beer selection of any group there.  While some planning by the other GA clubs has begun, we still need to come up with costumes and table/food arrangements (no, we’re not kidding).  Each club will be set up in some sort of theme with some getting very wild and crazy.  T-shirts will be ordered for attendees with a M*A*S*H theme (for us that’s “More Ale = Savannah Happy”).  We are the MASH 1700 (it’s 5 o’clock somewhere) unit.  We’ll probably all be wearing fatigues and coming up with other fun MASH-style garb.  Anyone who wants to bring kimschi is. . . well, OK don’t bring kimschi.

Hospitality Suite

We are also booked to host the hospitality suite for a session.  Whatever beer we have left over from Club Night, plus anything else you can bring is welcome.  We will need a minimum of 6 kegs for this.  Bottles are also OK for the hospitality suite.  Even if you cannot attend the convention and want to help out, plan to brew a beer that we can use.

Travel

Air rates are pretty high for direct flights from SAV to CIN ($350), so we will probably plan a caravan/carpool arrangement or if enough folks are interested, look into renting a bus/van.
