Beer vs Wine Dinner at Ruth's Chris

Postby dplittle on Sun Jul 25, 2010 10:24 pm

For Ruth's Chris' inaugural beer dinner, Tim Rutherford and I are hosting a good ol' fashioned battle royale of beer vs wine pairings. Here's the info from Tim's last newsletter....

Wine vs Beer: Best Pairing Wins!
I threw down the gauntlet to beer consigliere David Little: We'll go head-to-head in a pairing dinner - may the best beverage win!

We asked Chef Cody Buford of Ruth's Chris Steak House to assemble a four-course dinner that David and I would take to the mountain top and bring back with suitable pairings - he with craft beers, me with wine.
The menu looks like this:

Seared Ahi Tuna with Spicy Mustard Sauce
Deconstructed Crab Cake Chop Salad
Blackened Petite Filet Mignon with Blue Cheese Crust
Chocolate Bread Pudding

Join us for the banter, the beer, the wine and the inevitable trash talk as we present the candidates - and you vote the winners.

Wine vs Beer, Wednesday, July 28, 6:30 p.m.,
Ruth's Chris Steak House, 111 W. Bay St. $50 pp++.
Call for reservations, 912.721.4800.

Jerald, you should not decry Mike's judging math...you've won so many times that surely he has judged one of your beers and rated it highly. Or did he think they were bad but added his scores wrong????

The dinner ended up a tie. Beer won the appetizer and dessert courses while wine won salad and entree. I was robbed on the entree course though! Here's how I paired them ...

Seared Ahi Tuna with Spicy Mustard Sauce (Saison Dupont)
Deconstructed Crab Cake Chop Salad (The Bruery Trade Winds)
Blackened Petite Filet Mignon with Blue Cheese Crust (Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron)
Chocolate Bread Pudding (North Coast Brother Thelonious)

We are planning a rematch in October, Mike, so you can plan on that one. More details as I have them.
