  • There is no limit on the number of entries. The Registration Page allows up to 10 entries. If a Brewer has more entries, contact the Registrar.
  • Only one entry per subcategory allowed. (You can have one entry in 21A and one in 21B but you can’t have two in 21A or two in 21B).
  • Each Entry will consist of two (2) bottles, each with a completed bottle ID form attached by a rubber band, the completed on-line entry form and PayPal payment.
  • Entry Fee – $7 per entry … Paid via PayPal from the Registration Page with the Entry detail.
  • A change in the platform of the registration program may make entry modifications difficult. Please wait to register your Entries until you are satisfied with the Category / Style.
  • Each bottle with have a completed Shamrock Competition Bottle ID form, attached with a rubber band
  • Entries must be received/dropped off at one of the locations listed below by 5PM on Saturday February 16th. No exceptions. Anything dropped off after 5PM on Saturday February 16th will not be eligible for judging. There will be no further pick-ups from Drop-Offs prior to the competition.
  • There will not be a pickup at the February CARBOY meeting on February 27th
  • There will be no formal out-of-town pickup this year. SHA Homebrew clubs (some clubs formally part of CBOY) may be coordinating collection and delivery. Check with your local club and have them contact the Shamrock Cellarmaster to streamline delivery.
  • No entries will be accepted on the day of the competition.
  • No-shows will not receive a refund

Judging will begin promptly at 9:00 AM on Saturday February 29, 2020. Registration will start at 8 AM — please be on time. Preliminary judging will be scheduled depending on the number of entries and judge availability. Late entries and walk-ins will only be accepted by decision of the Organizer.
Judges and Stewards are urged to indicate their offer through the Registration site, along with which sessions are of interest, and style preference.

The competition is limited to 425 Paid Entries.
Please be aware that an entry might be registered but still not qualify for the competition because payment was not completed before the competition limit was reached.

This Event is sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association and judged using the 2015 Beer Judge Certification Prpgram Style Guidelines. Detailed style descriptions may be found on the BJCP webpage. Entries will be accepted in all categories this year. Beer styles will have a separate Best of Show from the Cider and Mead styles.

Entrants may enter up to 8 beers as they like but are restricted to one entry per sub-category. Entrants are responsible for placing their beer in the proper category. No entry will be reclassified. Some categories may be combined or split at the organizer’s discretion. Entries will be judged according to the style originally indicated by the brewer.

We are proud to be a part of the MidSouth Series which is Mid-South Homebrewer of the Year and Club of the Year.


Judges and Stewards are needed for all of the preliminary judging sessions as well as on the day of the competition.
Those interested in being a judge or steward should indicate their offer on the Registration site. Judges and Stewards are allowed to specifiy which sessions they could attend along with preferred styles or disliked styles.
Lunch or Dinner will be provided for judges and stewards accompanying a judging session. Coffee and donuts/bagels will be provided the morning of the competition.

Judges for the Peach State Brew Off cannot judge in any category they have entered.
Stewards for the Peach State Brew Off cannot steward in any category they have entered.
BJCP Points will be awarded to judges and stewards through the BJCP Organization according to their guidelines bu the Organizer.

The Peach State Brew Off is open to all homebrewers regardless of their location. Beers brewed by two or more individuals must list the names of all involved. No commercially brewed entries will be accepted.

Entry fee is $10 per entry.
Brewers, as groups or individuals, are limited to eight (8) entries. A person participating in a group brew would not affect the entry limits for that person as an individual brewer.
Each entry must consist of two (2) glass bottles that hold a minimum of 10 ounces (296 ml) by volume. The bottle must be no more than 2.75 inches (7 cm) in diameter and no more than 9 inches (23 cm) in height, to ensure that it will fit in standard longneck case box slot.
The bottle must be free of ink, paint, or paper labeling other than the competition entry label.
Any lettering or graphics on the cap must be obliterated with a permanent marker.
Entry labels must be securely attached to each bottle with a rubber band. Labels that are taped or glued to the bottle will be disqualified.
Entry fees for disqualified entries will not be returned — please follow the instructions.

Payment can only be made through PayPal.

Entries will be accepted at the drop-off locations from Monday January 6, 2020 to Monday February 3, 2020. No entries will be accepted at drop-off locations after February 3, 2020.
Entries will be accepted at the shipping locations from Monday January 6, 2020 to Monday February 3, 2020. Entries received after February 3, 2020 may not be available for the competition.
Walk-in entries will only be accepted at the sole discretion of the Organizer and only with prior arrangement. Late or invalid entries will not be returned.

All entries must be registered through the online registration site. The Online entry registration is available from December 29, 2018 through February 1, 2019.

People’s Choice

The Diaper Rash Jelly Toast People’s Choice will be conducted during the Awards Ceremony and Raffle. There is no separate entry fee to be considered for this event. There are no style guidelines to adhere to. Just print out the Transport Permit Label and attach it to the keg.

To enter, bring a keg, or a case, just make sure to bring enough for everyone to get a sample. No advance registration is necessary, but a permit label is required. Entries will be accepted on the day of the competition only. The drop-off or shipping locations will not accept People’ Choice entries. If you bring a keg, please remember to provide a gas source and a tap. There should be no expectation of having any equipment available unless prior arrangements have been made.

The winner will be selected by popular vote from the people attending the Award Ceremony and Raffle. Winner will receive a commemorative plaque acknowledging the accomplishment.

Last year was great, but no reason not to make it better. This year, let’s ramp it up!
Make it crazy, or make it sane. Pull out the special kegs!!!

Results will be announced at 1:00 PM on Saturday February 29, 2020 at Little Tree Art Studios.
Medals will be presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each flight during the Awards Ceremony in conjunction with the Raffle while the Best-of-Show session is being conducted. BJCP categories may be split or combined depending on the number of entries received in each category.

The Ale Grail is presented to the Georgia Homebrew Club with the highest point total. Scoring is done using 1st = 5 points, 2nd = 3 points, and 3rd = 1 point. In the case of a points tie, the club with the most first place medals receives the presentation.

Best of Show Awards

First Place Best of Show receives a commemorative plaque.

Second Place Best of Show receives a commemorative plaque.

Third Place Best of Show receives a commemorative plaque.

First Place Mead/Cider Best of Show receives a commemorative plaque.

People’s Choice Award will receive a commemorative plaque.

We will make every effort to post the results at the Covert Hops registration site on the day of the event.

Official Rules

Entries will be accepted in ALL of the 2015 BJCP categories, including Mead and Cider. View the BJCP Style Guidelines.

Entry Deadline and Registration

Online Registration will begin Saturday, February 1, 2020 and end Saturday, February 29, 2020.
All entries must be physically received by Saturday, February 29, 2020 in order to be eligible for judging.


The entry fee is $8.00 per entry. There is a limit of 12 entries per brewer. Only one entry per subcategory per brewer will be accepted, with the exception of categories 29 (Fruit Beer) & 34 (Specialty Beer), where multiple entries will be accepted from the same brewer.

Completed scoresheets for each entry will be available for download within 24 hours of the end of the competition. The completed scoresheets can be downloaded from the Online Registration System.


  • Each entry must be packaged in a plain glass bottle and be either crown capped or corked.
  • Bottles and caps must be free of anything which is sufficiently unique that it could identify a brewer to a judge. This may include labels, unique bottle shapes or the like (NOTE: Raised lettering commercial beer bottles ARE permitted).
  • No swing-top bottles are allowed. Bottle caps should have any distinguishing marks completely blacked out.
  • Bottles not meeting these guidelines will be disqualified and ineligible for award. (They may be judged at the discretion of the Competition Organizer.)
  • Reusable containers, including “Carbonator” type devices, CAN NOT be returned.
  • Entries must consist of two (2) bottles, each with a completed bottle ID form attached by a rubber band. Please use the computer generated bottle ID tags created by the online registration system. A third bottle may be submitted, if desired.
  • All entries submitted become the sole property of the Colonial AleSmiths and Keggers (CASK).
  • No bottles or shipping materials will be returned, even if the entries are disqualified and not judged.
  • It is the solely up to the discretion of the Competition Organizer if disqualified entry fees will be reimbursed.

Judging & Stewarding

Please plan on registering to Judge or Steward, if you will be able to join us for the competition.

Judging will take place at St. George Brewing Company in Hampton, VA and will begin promptly at 9:00AM. Every effort will be made to have all entries judged by qualified participants in the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP).   1. Apprentice judges are welcome and encouraged to judge. Apprentice judges will be paired with experienced judges.
  2. Judges and Stewards will be our guests for a light breakfast before the competition and lunch between flights during the competition.
  3. Judges and stewards are expected to arrive NO LATER THAN 8:30AM.
  4. Out-of-town judges that are in need of overnight accommodations, please contact the Competition Organizer or Judge Director, as local homebrew Club members may be able to assist with overnight lodging.
  5. The Competition Organizer reserves the right to condense categories if insufficient entries are received in a particular category.
  6. Conversely, categories in which a large number of entries are received in each of several subcategories may be expanded to include multiple tables, or pre-judged as appropriate, to ensure adequate time is allowed for completion of the event on the scheduled date. In this circumstance, it is guaranteed that all entries WILL still be judged by registered judges for this competition.
  7. All judging & stewarding points will be filed with the BJCP by the Organizer within 72 hours following the competition (Note that the BJCP will record the points according to their regular update schedule).

Prizes and Awards

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place beers in each category will receive a ribbon or medal and other prizes.
The Best-of-Show beer will be awarded an award plaque and prizes.

The Baron of the Blitz Award

The “Baron of the Blitz Award” will be awarded to the brewer who accumulates the most points during the Beer Blitz.  The points will be awarded based upon 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place finishes at any first-round table and based on the following points scale:

  • 1st Place in category: 5 points
  • 2nd Place in category: 3 points
  • 3rd Place in category: 1 point

The Blitzkrieg Award

The “Blitzkrieg Award” which will be awarded to the HOMEBREW CLUB which accumulates the most points during the Beer Blitz.  The points will be awarded based upon 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place finishes at any first-round table and based on the following points scale:

  • 1st Place in category: 5 points
  • 2nd Place in category: 3 points
  • 3rd Place in category: 1 point

The Homebrew Club which accumulates the most points throughout the competition will be declared the winner and will receive an award and lay claim to bragging rights for the next year.

In the case of a tie for either of these awards, the following tie-breakers will be applied, first, the highest number of first places and then, if required, the lowest number of entries.

Any issue not addressed by these rules will be resolved at the sole discretion of the Competition Organizer and that decision shall be final.

ReBrew @ Service Brewing Company

SBL is participating in this event with 20 kegs for 100 gallons of brew from reclaimed water which will be trucked down from the Gwinnett’s county sanitation plant. In 2021, Savannah will have its own sanitation plant which will make future events like this easier. GA Association of Water Professionals conference organizers are working tirelessly in approving State legislation to allow reclaimed water to be consumed by the public. The President of the GA Association of Water Professionals is making the ReBrew event a major session during their Savannah conference in 2020.

Our participation in ReBrew event with the GA Association of Water Professionals SAV conference and Service Brewing has been green lighted. ReBrew will take place on July 13th and SBL will need 5-7 SBL members to help pour beers from our portable bar. Service Brewing is also on board with hosting the ReBrew event at their brewery. What we need from the SBL is a minimum of 100 bu’s of beers brewed with reclaimed water. We will receive access to this reclaimed water on May 13 which is 7.5 weeks away from the July 13thevent and only really gives us 4-5 weeks to create 100 bu’s. We will need ALL SBL member’s participation in order to fulfill this order. So go ahead and pre plan out some recipes so you can help support your local homebrew club. ALL recipe names will have to be approved by the GA Sanitation Water Professionals board. Sorry to disappoint everyone but the creative names that I have been hearing won’t be approved. So no Poo Brew, Sh!ts Porter, or IPeeA for obvious marketing reasons. This will be a big event for SBL, Savannah, and the GA Association of Water Professionals. SBL is working on getting an article published in Zymurgy (AHA magazine) and the local newspaper on this event.

Kegs, kegs, and kegs. If you have extra kegs that are not in use during the ReBrew timeframe, please loan them out to other members for this event, we will need them.
